Easton Area School District

D’Huy Engineering, Inc. (DEI) has been providing design, facilities and resident project engineering, and project/ construction management services for Easton Area School District for over twenty years. DEI has overseen numerous projects for the District ranging in size and complexity between roof repairs and boiler replacement to multi-million dollar phased new, renovation and addition projects consisting of:
• LEED Gold Paxinosa Elementary School Renovations (Current Projection: $13M)
• Shawnee Middle School Renovations & Additions ($82M)
• Historic March Elementary School Renovations & Additions ($17M)
• 10 year Capital Improvement Plan & Project Implementation (Ongoing)

The goal of the Shawnee Middle School renovation project was to create a “school within a school concept” for the District by adding 384,000SF of new space onto the existing school. The project required a complete relocation of every utility servicing the “operating school,” a feat accomplished as a result of careful phasing and scheduling led by DEI. Another District project managed by DEI was a national historic registered building, Francis March Elementary School. DEI oversaw a complete renovation of the school including a new 3-story addition and $1.2M of exterior masonry restoration work to return the building to its original splendor.

Currently, DEI is managing the District’s 130,000 sq. ft. renovation of Paxinosa Elementary School. DEI assisted the District with developing a building program and budget, assemble a design team, provide oversite of the design and bidding, and manage the project during construction. Through careful scope evaluation and value engineering, the bid cost of the project is more than $4 million below budget. Also, DEI assisted the District with the completion of an application for a $2 million dollar Alternative and Clean Energy Grant Program (ACE) for the project, whereby the building will achieve LEED Gold certification. The grant will reduce the cost of the project for the District; the improvements to energy efficiency as a result of LEED Gold design will save taxpayer money over the long term and focus the taxpayer funds on education and sustainability
