Northampton Community College, Monroe Campus

D’Huy Engineering, Inc. (DEI) provided project management and pre-construction services to the Northampton Community College during the design phase and construction phase of their new campus in Monroe County. The campus includes three buildings: 42,500 SF Enrollment Center, 68,000 SF Student Life Building and a 95,000 SF Classroom building.

DEI’s approach to planning and preparing bid documents was methodical and included value engineering, budgeting and constructability reviews. DEI working closely with the entire design team resulted in favorable bids and very cost effective construction.

The 71 acre site was complex with a high quality watershed including areas of steep slopes, environmental easements and pinnacle rock. In addition, there were significant highway improvements and site utility work required as part of the project.

Unique site improvements, including porous paving, rain gardens, and a geo-exchange field for the HVAC system presented challenges to the construction phasing. By developing a logical and strategic milestone construction schedule, DEI was able to maintain an aggressive construction schedule without compromising critical storm and erosion control systems. The project was completed on time and on budget with a June 2014 completion date.

DEI also provided pre-construction services for a 600KW solar farm that incorporated carports to provide a more sustainable and efficient use of the over 1,200 parking spaces constructed as part of the new campus.
