Northampton Middle School
D’Huy Engineering, Inc. has been the School District’s Resident Project Engineer for over ten years and has overseen numerous construction and renovation projects for the District. D’Huy served as the Construction Manager for the Northampton Area School District during the construction of the new Northampton Area Middle School at the District’s Secondary Campus. D’Huy was retained to assist the District in retaining property for the new Middle School, develop a building program and budget, retain a design team, provide oversight of the design and bidding, and manage the project during construction. D’Huy initially assisted the District with determining project goals and programming options ranging from renovating the existing Middle School, renovating and expanding the existing Middle School, to a complete replacement of the building. Through thorough analysis of the existing facility and detailed cost estimating of the options for new and renovated construction, D’Huy and the District successfully established a program to replace the building and build a new Middle School. Upon the completion of the construction phase for the new Middle School, the existing building was demolished, and a new bus loop and two athletic turf fields were constructed.
During design, D’Huy performed additional and detailed cost estimating to verify the project budget was maintained by conducting a value engineering study, and performing several constructability reviews. The study and reviews included the participation of the Owner and Design Team as well as District Board members. The project team ensured the project scope, phasing and budget were clear and concise prior to bidding. Our constructability review resulted in hundreds of comments and recommendations that were reviewed and agreed upon with the Owner and Architect. Due to the new School being constructed on the existing Secondary Campus, great attention to traffic circulation was required so the District could maintain a safe functioning campus during the construction process.
